“Reading this guy on the subject of waves and water is like reading Hemingway on bullfighting; William Burroughs on controlled substances; Updike on adultery. . . . a coming-of-age story, seen through the gloss resin coat of a surfboard.” —Sports Illustrated

Barbarian Days is William Finnegan’s memoir of an obsession, a complex enchantment. Surfing only looks like a sport. To initiates, it is something else: a beautiful addiction, a demanding course of study, a morally dangerous pastime, a way of life.

A staff writer at "The New Yorker" since 1987, author, William Finnegan just received the Pulitzer Prize for his autobiography, "Barbarian Days." Finnegan will be at SHACC on Saturday, May 21 from 6-9 PM to give a talk and to sign copies of his book. Free for SHACC members, $5 for non-members.

Call us if you'd like to pre-order a copy of the book and have it signed by Finnegan. 949.388.0313 x0.
